Track Of The Day :: Keroscene - Regret
Words: Ellie Ward
The former Binary members who regrouped as Keroscene early last year, follow up their impressive debut single 'Cotton Candy'/'Storm O.K.' with 'Regret'.
The north-west London four-piece draw on influences from late 80's noise rock, nu-wave and psych - to make for something the band describe as "multicoloured melancholy", though 'Regret' offers a dark edge, for most of its five minutes it provides an anthemic ride on bouncy chords and David Troster's vocal soaring upwards in true rock stylee. There's a great midpoint sampling around 3.17 too.
The band, who are made up of Thomas Marion (bass), Jake Sorbie (vocals, drums), Francesco Bondi (guitar, sampler) and Troster (vocals, guitar) - the latter three all previously being members of Binary -take their name from "Kerosene" and "Scene" - an idea which apparently came after Troster had a drunken argument in a bar with a journalist who claimed that there are no more scenes as they all quickly burn out. Fortunately, it looks as if this 'scene' is here to stay for awhile.
Keroscene play south London's New Cross Inn on June 24.
