Track Of The Day :: Native Braves - Cathedral

Words: Ellie Ward

Lincolnshire alt-rock quintet Native Braves have just unveiled their debut three-track EP 'Dissonance', which may seem like a long wait since they actually formed two years ago. But like they say, sometimes the best things are worth waiting for.

After honing their dark and brooding style on first single, the AA-side ‘Blood Orange/'Self Assemble’, and undergoing line-up changes earlier this year, 'Dissonance' shows their sombre sound has taken a heavier edge.

Take a listen to lead cut 'Cathedral' which goes big on atmosphere in its melancholic tone, but still retains a soulful indie feel, with penetrating riffs that build from the track's ominous opening, along with unrelenting drums and controlled synth accompaniment that edge towards a climactic close.

Native Braves play Sheffield's Tramlines festival this Sunday, July 26, followed by Green Bricks, Kingston upon Hull on August 1.
