Introducing :: LUNO

Words: Linn Branson

A few years ago there seemed to be a new band emerging from Birmingham and the West Midlands almost by the week. Some, as we have seen, faired better than others, while a handful of others split themselves up to go on to form other groups.

LUNO is one of the latter. Formed out of past members of Wide Eyed, Prayers and Leopard, around 18 months there have already been a few line-up changes, but now seem to have sorted themselves out.

Their first public track (a second - 'Shrine' - is to be released in April) is 'Salt'. Recorded with Reece Hayden (formerly of another Brum band, Laced) at the newly opened Bay Ten studios in Walsall, bases itself in post-punk, though with some sharp, edgy guitar and relentless drums complimenting Aitken's baritone vocals (that made Prayers so distinctive), it at times almost borders the industrial.

LUNO play The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham (supporting Pleasure House) on April 8.

LUNO are: Alex Aitken - vocals, guitar;  Matt Jenkins - guitar; Charlie Soffe - bass; Aaron Singh - drums
