Track Of The Day :: Lyves - Darkest Hour
Words: Linn Branson
A song to make you sigh, cry, tingle your spine and swoon all at once.
We first featured the stunning vocals of Italian-Australian electronic artist Francesca Bergami - Lyves - back in April last year when she gave us 'Body Close'. There hasn't been anything heard from her since - until now. 'Darkest Hour' is the new single - and first cut from an EP due later in the year - from the North Londoner, and what a joy worth the wait for.
Released on March 7, 'Darkest Hour' must rate as Lyves' finest hour so far. There's an affectingly dark and atmospheric touch to the soul-rich vocals, synths, drums and percussion wrapped in a tight production helmed by Lyves together with Crada (Christian Kalla, German Grammy-nominated producer and instrumentalist). That Lyves is an artist on the road to major success, there can be little doubt after this.
"This song came out of a four-month writing trip I took in my family's hometown in Italy," Francesca tells us. "I decided to leave my job four months ago and focus on my writing and production which is all I've ever wanted to do. The time is now coming to an end but this was the first song that came out of the process."
Lyves plays her first headline show at The Waiting Room, London on April 23.
