Introducing :: The Shantics
Words: Linn Branson
According to their - apparently self-penned - presser, south-west London four-piece The Shantics are "the band to watch out for", whose "youthful charm and energy" you can't help "but be infected by" - perhaps a job in PR might be an option if the music gig fails?
On that glowing recommendation we obviously had to give them a listen. Although they are not strictly 'new' as in having emerged just this year (they seem to have managed to tie in a fair number of gigs over the last 12 months), they have just now pulled out their first single 'Maybe I...' with a little video to go with it.
Fronted by Jimmy (one of the two guitar-playing Morris brothers of the band), who delivers some rather catchy, wry lyrics in a spiky pop setting, there is something likeable about both sound with infectious melody and exuberant riffs, and the Rupert Harvey-directed visuals.
The Shantics play London's Nambucca on June 11 w/Baby Strange and Otherkin.
The Shantics are: Jimmy Morris (vocals/guitar), Harry Morris (guitar), Nubby Vine (bass), Rob Wheeler (drums).
