New Sounds #62 June 7 2016
FRIENDS AT THE FALLS - BRIGHT EYES
Lead track from the Mahopac, New York five-piece's second EP 'We Are Friends', released last week. Jake Stam adds an interesting post-punk styling on vocals to an alt-rock /pop melody. Star rating: 3/5
JOHNNY KILLS - MAYBE NEXT TIME
New Brighton-based outfit release this as their second offering after 'Take It Easy'. Indie pop infused with surf/synth melodics, and call and response notes from vocalist Timmy Lloyd-Kinnings. Still to play live, they make their debut at The Hope and Ruin, Brighton on September 3. Star rating: 3/5
CERISE - SMOKE SCREEN DREAMS
We featured 'St. Nick' last month from the self-released debut album 'Smoke Screen Dreams' (out on June 24), by LA/Chicago chanteuse Cerise Leang. Now she shares the dreamy title track. A name to remember judging by her work so far. Star rating: 4.5/5
HUCKS - SECOND IN LINE
Following up 'Us Again' which we featured back in February, the young late-teens London four-piece now offer their latest track with some more bouncy guitar lines and sliding synths. Catch live at The Borderline, London on July 2. Star rating: 3.5/5
