Words: Ellie Ward
The just released new single from Prides, 'Are You Ready', is another step in the right direction for the Glasgow two-piece after their previous offering 'Rome', and is the second track to be unveiled from their sophomore album set for release in 2017.
‘Are You Ready’ sees Prides continue their guitar/drum led sound, with swirling fret work from Callum Wiseman and abetted by subtle electronics, and the passionate vocalled Stewart Brock who manages to sound both sensuous and sorrowful at the same time.
Originally starting life a stripped back 80s-inspired electro ballad, ‘Are You Ready’ was one of the first tracks the pair wrote this year.
"Lyrically it's about forgiveness," they explain. "It's about those long nights you stay awake trying to figure out what you want, talking till the early hours, drinking too much, smoking too much, thinking too much. Saying the wrong thing, saying the right thing, saying anything."
To mark the release of the new single, the duo will be on tour in October, including headlining DIY Magazine’s event at Boston Music Rooms in London, on October 2, which also includes Eat Fast, Will Joseph Cook, Trudy and The Romance and special guests to be announced.
