Hailing from the sunny Welsh climes of, er...Cardiff, Bloom are a new four-piece who, if interest from those we have been talking to about them is anything to go by, look like they could be a future Big Thing.
Citing influences such as The Stone Roses, Joy Division, The Cure and Television, Bloom have released this taster of the fruit of their loins - 'Slow Evil', accompanied by a video taken from one of those 60s B-movie horror films that were so beloved of their age. [And another example of why the BBC needs to bring back Old Grey Whistle Test. This video, like so many others, are reliant on YouTube for viewing when they deserve a television audience too. OGWT was one of the few that catered for visuals to tracks. Today, sadly, we have nothing of its ilk on mainstream TV.]
'Slow Evil' is an immediate burner, with Bakewell's vocals being darkly hypnotic on the "forever haunting me" line, and again at the finale, over a catchy indie pop/post punk beat, with what sounds like a little synth interplay.
At the moment the band are just doing things for themselves, but looking for a label release. So if you run a label, or know a man who does, we suggest you check out the blooming lovely-sounding Bloom (who tell us they already have an album's worth of material in their cache), like, pronto.

Very good song but didn't OGWT just show 'live' performance vids. So its modern conception is basically Jools Holland. Struck me as an odd and irrelevant digression.
ReplyDeleteNo, OGWT mainly used old vintage film footage - which was what was so great about it. Jools Holland is now well past his prime and the Later format is stale.
