** PREMIERE ** Social State - Given Up
Words: Linn Branson
Little Indie introduced Social State, the "two teenagers making fat tunes" here last September with their first offering after forming a few months before, the Rat Boy produced 'Backtrack'.
This Friday (March 3) the Birmingham-based late teen duo - Brad Hopkins (vocals, drums, samples, synths) and Andy Lord (vocals, keys, guitar, samples, synths) - return with their official debut single, 'Given Up'. The rap tune with its "she feels like giving up" chorus line that should play around in your head for a while, was produced by Social State themselves.
The track - which comes with Morgan Tedd's (who directed Jaws' 'Right In Front Of Me') video, below - follows on from 'Backtrack's working-class youth appeal, and is, Brad and Andy say, influenced by "some personal issues about a girl who was once one of our best friends starting to go down a bad path and struggle with correct life choices. The idea of the video was to try and capture the liveliness of a night out, so we shot the video in Birmingham's club scene on a Saturday night."
Social State play The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham on March 22 supporting Bad Sounds.
