Listen :: SWEAT give us a taste of 'Heaven' before heading to SXSW

Words : Jane Davies

South Londoners SWEAT return with their first 2017 release in 'Heaven', their latest track which came out last week, following last year’s debut EP, 'Pink Love World'.

Just shy of four minutes of off-kilter psych-pop grooves, 'Heaven' sees the band delve into the emotional turmoil of loss and not letting go; frontman Dante carrying the song on expressive vocals over a disco bassline, punctuated by glistening synths and twanging guitars.

Describing the song, he says: "'Heaven' is about suddenly being left alone in the darkness of your own mind, where memory and fantasy can quickly reform into nightmare and your own dreams no longer offer any sanctuary."

It has been an incredibly busy 12 months for the five-piece, which has seen them sell out headline shows, most notably at London's Moth Club where they opened up for a secret set for Lady Ga Ga last year.

2017 looks set to up the pressure, as they head off this week to Austin, Texas where they will play at SXSW as part of the BBC Radio 1 Official Showcase - before returning to London for their biggest headline show to date at Corsica Studios.
