** VIDEO PREMIERE ** Twist Helix - Little Buildings

Words: Sam Geary

Inspired by the closing of fringe music and art spaces in Newcastle, electronic alt-pop three-piece Twist Helix share the visual treatment to their upcoming single 'Little Buildings', released on July 22.

Little Indie brings you a first view of the video, directed by Duncan Falconer and filmed inside the band's rehearsal space - The Little Buildings, situated in the Ouseburn Valley.

"We've tried to emphasise the venue's DIY atmosphere, using minimal lighting other than the venues signature fairy lights for the indoor sequences," reveals vocalist Bea Garcia.

The song was inspired by a rehearsal cut short by noise complaints, and its lyrics voice our disgust in the hypocracy of redeveloping an area through culture only to force the music and arts venues out when an area becomes more economically appealing.

"Sonically, the track opens with a tardis-like whirring to transport the listener into a not too distant future; filling the instrumental mid section with the clattering of a choked hi-hat and distorted bass guitar to create the sounds excavator drills. We even went as far as to include a sampled explosion in the drop," Garcia adds.

The video has two timelines: one in monochrome, of the band walking through a bleak cityscape devoid of life, and the other in colour, with them performing inside the little buildings which visibily disintegrates around them with first gig posters, lights, amplifiers, instruments and finally the group themselves vanishing.
