This Feeling Alive UK Tour - Part 2

Words: Richard Cobb

Following on from our first look a couple weeks ago at the more impressive than a Noel Fielding shirt on Bake Off, This Feeling Alive Tour, we now take a closer look at those who’ll be lining up as the starter each night of the tour prior to sets from The Shimmer Band, Bang Bang Romeo and BlackWaters.

Swindon’s Yves will be making the quick 47 minute jaunt down the M4 (unless they get a train) to Bristol for the opening night of the tour on October 1. Earlier in the summer the band released their punchy single ‘You Wanna Know’ produced by ex-Kasms and Test Icicles man Rory Attwell. If you like Catfish and The Bottlemen, commandeer James Blunt’s dinghy and sail to the front of the stage for these guys.

Onto Cardiff, Chapel Row from nearby Merthyr Tydfil will be pitching up with their hair raising bass lines, infectious hooks and attention grabbing melodies. Performance wise, this four piece will no doubt throw everything into their set, most likely including recent single ‘Lockdown'.

Appearing in Birmingham are a band we covered in the run up into their This Feeling stage appearance at Tramlines this year - Walsall’s The Assist. If the self-proclaimed tag of council rock/pop didn’t make it obvious enough, this band are pretty unique in their sound and have got a lot to shout about, smoothed out with a guitar driven groove assisted by spot on bass and drums.

Jorvik shuts at 5, so you’ve got no excuse not to make it down in plenty time to catch Sheafs at York venue Fibbers. Cast your mind back to what seems like many moons ago when Arctic Monkeys were all about Red Bull riffs and Adidas. If this band were around back then, they might well have been a thorn in the Sheffield bands side when it came to chart domination.

Glasgow needs about as much of an introduction to Vida as London needs to Uber, but with the way things have been going for both this year, it’s clear who’s been getting more 5 stars for their performance and who’ll be around longer. Vida by the way, in case that wasn’t transparently obvious...

Proletariat haven’t even been together for a full year yet, but they’ve impressively sold out every Manchester show they’ve played to date. To try to continue their clean sweep, they’re back in Manchester again for this one. New single ‘Ignorance’ is a sign of a band desperate for change. With Baby Strange and Cabbage inviting them on their tours, that change they’re looking for might not be all that far away.

Leeds bound are another band we covered in the run up to Tramlines this summer, the 60’s psych connoisseurs The Strawberries. This is a perfect homecoming for the band who enjoyed a hugely successful summer in the fields and this can help them further plant their name alongside bands such as Blossoms and The Vryll Society.

A short swim or ferry ride from their hometown of Grimsby, Mint play in Hull. Last time we wrote about Mint, I said they sounded really fresh, so this time I’ll refrain from making any mint-themed jokes and let the music below do the talking. Just make sure if you want to see them, you get to the venue extra early and not after eight.

The Ruffs open up the Nottingham show. The band are being labelled as one of the best new bands in the midlands and with toned down Liam Gallagher style vocals and adolescent Arctic Monkeys guitar sounds it’s hard to argue with that.

Sheffield has Liberty Ship opening the night. From the few tunes I’ve heard, they sound instantly recognizable, not due to sounding like anyone in particular, more to the band’s credit that the songs have clever hooks throughout which should get toes tapping, hands clapping and beers flying.

Paves have got great hair, great
clobber and more importantly great songs. Luckily they’re also opening up the penultimate date of the tour in London.

Finally, down to Brighton, the tour bows out in suitably chaotic fashion with garage punks SONS. If you like Slaves and you’re based in or around Brighton, you should already have a ticket for this. If you haven’t, watch the band’s third single ‘Zealot’ below and get a ticket for the show below.

The tour was initially meant to be topped off by The Blinders, but due to recording commitments, they had to free up their slot, which was a shame, but in turn it’s given 12 other great bands a platform to showcase what they’ve been cooking up on the festival circuit in the last months to hometown crowds.
