Sing & Tell :: OH!RIO

Formed in 2017, Dundee-based indie-rock four-piece OH!RIO released their debut single ‘Run’ last June. Kicking off 2018 with 'Lucky', their latest single 'Colours' was  released last week.

Who are you?

I'm Declan Millar, I'm the lead vocalist and one of the guitarists with OH!RIO. The rest of the band is made up of Andy McBeth (bass), my brother Sean (guitar) and John Adamson (drums).

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today?

The band formed roughly nine months ago in Dundee, Scotland, initially starting as a three-piece. We had only played one gig when we realised there was something missing, that’s when my brother Sean joined making us the band we are today.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

We're big fans of and are heavily influenced by a number of Scottish bands, in particular, Fatherson and The Twilight Sad. There's also a wider range of influences that we all bring together ranging from The Cure, Interpol, and Secret Machines.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

The songs usually start off on guitar, often an idea, melody or phrase that I'll bring into rehearsals that we all work to expand upon. Production-wise, we've most recently been working with Mark Tindall, vocalist with incredible Scottish metal band To Kill Achilles. He's someone who really 'gets' our sound and has helped us refine what we do and we're excited to continue the work we're doing with him at the moment.

Tell us a little about your new single.

'Colours' is just an unapologetic love song! We felt the sound was almost a throwback to 80s guitar pop. It's one of the first songs we wrote and was one that really came to life when we began recording it.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

Our next show will be a hometown show in Church, Dundee on April 13. We're currently booking our run of gigs for over the summer!

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?

We'll be releasing another single before the summer, playing a lot more shows, and will then be putting out our debut EP.

Where can we hear more of your music?

You can hear us on Spotify, as well as Soundcloud.
