Sing & Tell :: The Now

The Now formed earlier this year in Swansea with an idea to create an original band so others could hear the music they produced. The alt-rock quartet released their debut single 'Miss Fortunate' in May, with follow-up, 'Whispering Lies', just released this past weekend.

Who are you?

I am Shane Callaghan the singer for The Now. The other members in the band are Callum Bromage who brings colour to the band via lead guitar. Then there is Callum Van Den Bogerd, our drummer, and one who holds the beat together. Then finally, Nathan Parker, what every band needs -the bassist.

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today?

Me and the boys in the band have always been best friends; we all met in a jam night in Neath, Port Talbot when we were first improving on our instruments individually. As time went on we started depping in each others cover bands which brought us more chemistry by getting used to each other's  playing styles. We then finally decided to get together as one and form a original band which became The Now.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

The band's style or genre is known as indie/alternative, with an edgy, but solid, sound. With influences such as Kings of Leon, Manic Street Preachers, Kasabian, and many more...

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

When it comes to writing our songs we tend to get the backbone of the track solid first, getting a good chord progression. I tend to add the lyrics to the chord progressions. Then as a band we get together and rehearse the track, adding in the colour to the progression. After I can adjust the pitch of each lyrics by sometimes copying the guitar melody.

Tell us a little about your new single.

'Whispering Lies' is the band's second single release. It was recorded by James Weaver Music and then mastered by The Airlab. In our songs we always have a catch, being something you can hum along to or even sing along to. There is no doubt that this song has definitely got that catch.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We have a few big shows lined up throughout the year that will be announced shortly. One being Swansea Fringe Festival in October and Sin City in Swansea on the 25th of August.

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?

Our next steps are releasing one more single which will be announced shortly!  Then onto an abum, which we will release before Christmas. After that, an official tour.

Where can we hear more of your music?

To hear more of our music you can simply download it on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube and many more.

What social media platforms can we find you on?
