Wolf Alice have beaten off competition to scoop this year's won Hyundai Mercury Music Prize.
Announced earlier this evening (September 20), the band beat bookies' favourite Nadine Shah to take the honours for the outstanding British album of the year with their album ‘Visions Of A Life’.
As the London four-piece - who had previously been nominated for their 2015 debut ‘My Love Is Cool’ - took to the stage to accept the £25,000 prize, singer Ellie Rowsell said. "It means so much to pick this up with my three best friends."
The album was praised by judges who described it as "an exuberant tapestry of swirling pop, grunge and indie guitar rock. From an incredibly broad list of remarkable music, Wolf Alice emerged as the overall winner due to their ability to deliver an album that combines the epic and intimate in equal measure. It is a journey of a record – with euphoric festival anthems and moments of subtle beauty – it is an album articulated with confidence and adventure. For them, the world awaits!”
