The October debut single, 'Harry’s Never Had a Girlfriend', from the intriguingly named Brisbane five-piece Midnight Fuckboys, follows "the unlikely events of a man who loses his girlfriend, his car breaks down, and he isn’t making any progress in achieving his life-long dream of his band making it in the music industry, and they've just been turned down from radio (again)." Life can be hard and we feel for poor Harry, but this sub-four minute punk-rock scorcher will surely help ease his woes.
Formed just this past March - "but the majority of us have been jamming and messing around playing music for a few years. We're all mates from high school" - the Fuckboys tell us that the eponymous Harry does exist: "He's our lead singer - however, it's not based on him!"
The aforesaid Harry Heenan takes up the story: "I was listening to a lot of The Strokes during the time I was writing the song - perhaps in the luck of inspiring a sound that I believed a Strokes fan would love. After investing a great deal of time in a relationship and the reward being not as fulfilling as I expected, a lot of things started crashing down in my life at once.
"Instead of dwelling on this, I decided to approach the telling of the story from a comedic perspective, so the listener is entertained and sympathetic to the poor bastard’s misery."
Having just played their first gig, the second is upcoming at The Flying Cock in Fortitude Valley on November 16.
Midnight Fuckboys are: Harry Heenan (vocals, guitar), Murray Thorpe (vocals, keys), Connor Nicholson (guitar), Charlie Armstrong (bass), Harris Wakeling (drums).
