Swedish indie-pop trio Like Swimming Sing & Tell as they hit 'The Ground'

Swedish indie-pop trio Like Swimming have just released their latest single 'The Ground' last week. The follow up to 2018's 'Strike A Pose', with both featuring on their twin EPs, the forthcoming 'Resistance', and 'Relations' due later in the year.

Who are you?

I’m Petter Wesslander and I play drums and assorted trash cans and percussions. Claes Carlström (guitar, vocals, production) and Ida Hedene (keys, vocals) are further away in the room overlooking the interview...

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.

We all started playing together 15 years ago when we lived in Stockholm suburb. We had a five-piece band called You Say France And I Whistle, that later became what Like Swimming is today. Down the road some of us moved to a distant cottage in the woods, others got married and had a kid, but most importantly we all kept a will of creating music together, and still in Stockholm!

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

We are really a sprawling gang in terms of influences in music. Take Beyonce and add Vampire Weekend, sprinkle some Beach Boys all over it and bake it in a grunge oven.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Claes is a never-ending river of music and lyrics, Ida and Petter are the vessel that take these to finished listenable and sometimes even radio-friendly songs! While Claes heads up the production, the creative process from start to finish is very much a collaborative one.

Tell us a little about your new single.

It's kind of an upbeat train chugging away with a straight drum beat, shuffling guitars with Claes and Ida’s vocals trading places and blending together. It carries some heavy lyrics but the heaviness is not front and center production wise - it’s really quite a juxtaposition.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

Please invite us! We’ve been playing everything from LA festivals to children’s parties and a zombie pub crawl in Connecticut, so nothing scares us!

How's the the year looking, plans-wise?

We are releasing the EP ‘Resistance’ later this month, and then we're heading back to the studio to fix the last polishing on ‘Resistance’s twin EP 'Relations’, with an anticipated release early fall. That would give us time to send our double EP to vinyl pressing for Christmas to fans, friends and families.

Where can we hear more of your music?

We’re from Sweden, so Spotify would be our natural platform. Take a little extra look at old songs like 'For Hanna' and 'Fighting Demons'! If you by any chance run in to a YouTube clip when Mr Elton John receives an award, you’ll also hear us in the background! It’s a long shot but a great combo!

What social media platforms can we find you on?

We’re terrible at Insta-stories but if you want to follow our tentative steps this is where to go: Instagram. Also, Facebook, Twitter and our Website will hold a few surprises when the EP ‘Resistance’ is released!
