Japanese punk-popsters CHAI go 'PUNK' on second album
Words: Ellie Ward
The hotly rated all-female Japanese four-piece CHAI - who have been wowing crowds at SXSW this week, playing eight shows over three days -have now released their second album, ’PUNK’.
Out today (March 15) via Heavenly, the fuzzy, infectious 10-track record comes after CHAI's (twin sisters Mana and Kana on lead vocals/keys and guitarist, respectively; bassist Yuki, and Yuna on drums) 'PINK' debut album first released in Japan two years ago.
“‘PUNK’ to us is to overturn the worn-out values associated with ‘kawaii’ or ‘cute’ created up until this point," they state. "‘PUNK’ is a word that expresses a strong sense of self. To be yourself more, to become the person you truly want to be, to believe in yourself in every instance!”
Listen to 'PUNK' in full now.
