With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
SWIM TEAM - EVERYDAY THINGS
The Melbourne indie-pop three-piece -Sammy, TJ, Krystal - return with the first cut from their debut album, 'Home Time', out July 12 via Hysterical Records. The quirky track with foot-tapping garage-pop rhythms and easy guitars, is out now. "'Everyday Things' is an ode to everybody’s first world problems," says Krystal Maynard. "The lyrics are basically one long complaint about all the things that didn’t go right in a single day. The song is laughing at the way we tend to complain about everything when in all reality the scenarios mentioned are trite and trivial."
YOUR GIRL PHO - FIVE THIRTY PM
Perth's Phoebe Gunson brings more sweet neo-soul, pop vibes to her latest single. Layered beats and punchy vocals in a unique genre-mix styling. “‘Five-Thirty PM’ was written during a time I experienced my first more intensive depressive episode, where I would struggle to get out of bed most days. I was feeling the most pressure from a new job, and everything else that came with transitioning into adulthood, and expectations to be 'with it'," she says of the song. Catch live on April 20 at Perth's Si Paradiso.
BAYNK - WATER

Auckland, NZ producer and songwriter Jock Nowell-Usticke has released this brand new single of electronic production with an intricate blend of horns and percussion. Out now via AllPoints, it comes in advancs of his second EP, 'Someone's EP II', which is set to be released on May 15. BAYNK has seen a meteoric rise from obscurity to the brink of breakout in just 2 years, with releases amassing 82M+ plays on Spotify alone.
THORINGTON - CONNECTION
Singer and producer James Thorrington adopts a different style in his solo project to that of his 'other job' as drummer with the Auckland, NZ post-punk band Yukon Era. The psych-infused, three and a half minute number drifts around synths and guitar, with a smattering of experimental electronics.
LOST GOAT FOUND - UPSTAIRS
After starting out as a folk duo, the now Brisbane four-piece deliver an upbeat, indie-pop rock new single, released last week. Dealing lyrically with mental health issues, Morgan Francis' soaring vocals ride over melodic layers of punchy rhythms.
BAJILLIONAIRE - SLEEPWALKING (feat. Brewer)
Sydney musician and producer Charlie Hole collaborates with 17-year-old singer/songwriter (Hannah) Brewer on vocals, for this new synth-electronica single, which pairs immaculate production with catchy beats. "On this song I really wanted to say something much more subtle and less in your face than the other things I have done," says Charlie. "As a result, this is probably the most honest song I’ve ever written, but a lot of that honesty is hidden behind a lot of layers of metaphor and references. I don’t want to give away what exactly we have written about, but I will say it is something I have battled with since I was 13 or 14 years old, and I have always wanted to write about, but have never quite been able to find the right way to do it until now."
