With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
TELESCREEN - IN MIND
Melbourne pop-rock five-piece share the first taste of their forthcoming debut EP. The vibrant track contains a nostalgic feel, within its layers of guitars and melodic percussion. "'In Mind' follows the story of someone feeling under-valued and taken for granted in a relationship. It’s about falling into that deadly trap of knowing you’re being mistreated and under-appreciated but being unsure of how to pull yourself out," says frontman Nic Schwarz.

After featuring them late last year with 'Jimmy', the Wollongong alt-rock four-piece now offer up a new delight. Three and a half minutes of twanging riffs, helmed Annabelle Scobie's engaging vocal. “The song is meant to question what we are really doing wasting our youth, or in a way giving us a reason to see sense in it. I do like the idea of ending a school term with streamers but it also makes me sad in a way I can’t explain,” she says.
RENWICK - AS I AM
Latest release from the 21-year-old dance-pop artist who once again has popped his head around the production console of his bedroom in Sydney. Following his recent 'That's How It Goes', this just under three minute track has a dreamy, yet reverbed vibrancy to it, fusing indie pop with electronic elements and falsetto vocal.
FEVERMIND - CLOUDSTREET
Lead cut from the Perth grunge/alt-rock five-piece's self-titled debut EP, released June 18. Thumping bass lines, around hooky riffs and grunge vocal that pack a punch.
GREEN BUZZARD - I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE
Released on June 19 via I OH YOU, the Sydney-based outfit drop their first new single in two years. Produced by Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Weezer) in LA, the upbeat ballad marks a new chapter for the project of singer and guitarist Paddy Harrowsmith. "Essentially the track is about breaking up with someone and weighing up whether or not it's worth trying to fix things - knowing deep down it's ultimately better to move on but selfishly not wanting to be alone," he says.
DIVE BELL - LUPINE
The combination of alt-rock, electronica and trip-hop on this third single from the Sydney electronic rock quartet, is both hauntingly atmospheric and experimental. “I wrote 'Lupine' in a quick frenzy a few years ago in Melbourne,” reveals singer/keyboardist Aleesha Dibbs. "I was inspired by a doco I watched which delved deep into the territorial nature of wolves. It raised themes around belonging and entrapment, freedom and repression - which I explore lyrically in the track.”
