Track Of The Day :: Walt Disco - Past Tense
Words: Ellie Ward
Released today via LA-based singles label IHC 1NFINITY, Glaswegians Walt Disco release new single 'Past Tense'.
The follow up to May's 'Strange to Know Nothing', and recorded at Glasgow’s Chem19 studio, the track was completed on a day off during the band’s busy touring schedule.
The cinematic track sees James Potter effect vocal gymnastics, soaring and weaving around a Blue Nile-esque groove, managing to sound both grand and vulnerable at the same time.
"'Past Tense' is a song that delves into endings", explains Potter. "Whether that be relationships, life, or periods of your life. It is important to take time to fully understand and let yourself feel what you need to feel in these moments."
Directed and written by Franki Chan and Jesus Antonio Rivera, the video for ‘Past Tense’ deals with coming to terms with the death of a friend. The story opens with Blaire, twenty-something goth, at the gravestone of her recently deceased boyfriend, Drazen. As she awakes, a black balloon visits her and she attaches herself to it as a representation of her loved one. Over the course of the video, she lives her life as she would have with Drazen, oblivious to the balloon’s impact on the world around her. Eventually she’s forced to come to terms with the reality of the situation and let go.
It's as powerful and different as we have come to expect now from Walt Disco.
