Following their debut in August with ‘Innocents', Ireland's fast-rising late-teens newcomers from Kilkenny, The Wha, now add to their CV with second track.
‘40 Odd Years’, out this week via Chess Club, precedes their Irish suppprt dates with Two Door Cinema Club and maiden London date next month.
Where ‘Innocents’ was a paean to growing up, the Catholic Church’s well-documented scandals and addiction, ‘40 Odd Years’ takes their songwriting along a new route. Still energetic, raw and playfully chaotic, they now flirt with a darker lyrical tone: “It’s about a grandmother turning lesbian and her lover subsequently murdering her husband...”
Offset by their signature jangling guitars and bluesy gut-punch delivery from co-vocalist and guitarist Sam Cullen, The Wha are ones to watch.
