Cambridge alt-pop band Deep City Sing & Tell on new single 'Joyride'
Alt-pop electronic four-piece Deep City channel their multifarious influences into a sound that is eclectic, atmospheric, and endlessly listenable. The Cambridgeshire-based band have just released new single 'Joyride', with the self-produced, guitar-driven track seeing them veer away from their more electronically-experimental offerings of previous work, and refining their sound.
Who are you?
I'm Alex, I play drums in the band. Then there's Stan our frontman and singer, Lewis (lead guitar) and Steve (bassist).
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.
We came together at school through having similar interests in music, it then slowly became an escape to meet up and play music together.
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
Our music is a blend of pop and electronic music. We'd say we're alternative pop. We're influenced by The 1975, Prince, Toro y Moi and Radiohead.
Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.
Usually one of us had a snippet or small idea/demo, then I get shown it and put some ideas on it and then flesh out the structure. Stan will add lyrics and his two cents, and we'll all put input in. I'll then add production and synths.
Tell us a little about your new single.
'Joyride' is our first go at trying to write a catchy tune after testing the water with a lot of different styles. We self-recorded and produced the whole track, and had Jake from North Acre studios re-amp the guitars and mix.
Obviously at this time we won't be able to catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows, but can you tell us what you may have pencilled in otherwise for the rest of the year?
We have a short tour across the UK lined up which has been postponed, we also have a headline show in Cambridge that will be happening by the end of the year.
Where can we hear more of your music?
Our music is on Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp and Apple Music.
What social media platforms can we find you on?
