With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.

VENICE QUEENS - ROYALTY

Following the release of ‘Punchdrunk’ earlier this year, Adelaide indie-poppers Venice Queens have returned with new single, ‘Royalty’. This latest from the five-piece - recorded with Simon Kither at Adelaide’s Chapel Lane Studios - is a punchy tune with foot-tapping driving melodies and racing guitars. “‘Royalty was born out of a sense of frustration with the status quo. We hear a lot of talk about change but with ‘leaders’ like Scott Morrison and Donald Trump still being elected, it can sometimes be tough to see the light at the end of the tunnel - but the light is there. The overall mood of the track, while at times sarcastic or indignant, is one of determination,” say the band.

MARCO - ONLY WANT YOU

After his 2018 debut 'When I Was A Ghost', and its follow up, 'Running', saw him garner millions of online streams, Brisbane teen indie-pop artist Marco now adds a R&B lustre to this new single, indebted to his Frank Ocean influence. His enticing, sultry vocal moves languidly over a stripped-back production as it drowns in emption. "I wrote 'Only Want You' while I was in LA last year for some studio sessions," he says on the track. "The vibe was amazing and we just let the ideas flow. I’m glad to finally get this one out to the world, it means a lot to me."

TIA GOSTELOW - RUSH

Preceding her second album 'Psycho',
produced by Oscar Dawson and out May 22, Brisbane-via-Mackay's Tia Gostelow shares this sizzling electronica single cut which sees the 20-year-old move into dance territory. "I’m so excited about this song and the new album. I feel like 'RUSH' is the perfect introduction to the new sound and direction I’m going in, it shows off the use of synths and the 80s vibe that is spread throughout the whole record," she says.

SLIM SET - SOLAR

Sydney electronic hip-hop duo Slim Set - DJ Atro & Uncle Kal - have released their first new music of 2020, ‘Solar’. Recorded and mixed by Doug Wright, it follows last November's ‘Gee Up & Spray'. The sharp production - courtesy of Atro - augments the sub-four minutes of glitchy beats to throw some shapes down to.

Taken from the forthcoming EP 'You Remind Me Of Something I Lost' *yo be released on June 5), Melbourne alt-pop outfit jade imagine drop its latest cut ‘Coastal Pines’, out now on Milk! Records and Marathon Artists. “It’s a song about the head versus the heart,” explains vocalist and songwriter Jade McInally, of the dreamy, psych-infused track, produced and mixed by Timothy Harvey. “For me, it’s the never-ending struggle between the city and the ocean pulling in two different directions."

BEANS - STRIDE

The Geelong-based quintet (formerly known as Baked Beans, and fronted by The Murlocs' Matt Blach) follow their 2018 debut album 'Babble' with new full-length 'Stride', set for release on June 26 via Flightless Records. They precede it with this title cut single of retro tinged garage-psych-rock, in a washed-out mix of hazy melodies and echoing vocals.
