Premiered last night by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1, Sundara Karma are back with a crystal ball, bags of aplomb - and some pretty gorgeous threads, too.
Produced Clarence Clarity (Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama), 'Kill Me' shows the Reading four are truly back in business, with this first delivery on new label Chess Club Records.
Coming with a visual treat co-directed by vocalist Oscar Pollock with Hannah Diamond, which sees the band in a surreal dream world, 'Kill Me' is just a stop-everything-and-listen track and when you hear Pollock say how he now feels "so much more control", and how previously "everything felt more out of reach", you can sense that very change wafting through the speakers as the band sound better and more focused than ever.
"For the first time in my career I can say hand on my heart I’m feeling really confident in where we are both sonically and visually," he adds. "I’m really excited about all of the new music I’ve been writing - especially this song, 'Kill Me’. Right now, I feel like I’m able to be the most personal I’ve ever been in my songwriting and ‘Kill Me’ is definitely a reflection of this. Lyrically it draws upon actual events that happened to me throughout the last year and it was cathartic to be able to condense all of that into a track.
"To me the song is humorous and melodramatic, it’s about being in a situation where you’re just so exasperated, but also finding levity in the dramatic nature of your feelings."
