Vera Ellen (of Maple Syrup, Girl Friday), the Wellington, New Zealand artist currently based in Los Angeles, drops her solo album, 'Beat Yr Name', on October 12 via the US label 5 Star Limo.

Its fuzzy lead single 'kiss u in the punk' ("I spend my nights sweating on another bar stage / I sleep on the floor I'll never act my age / You kiss me on the mouth / I kiss you in the punk") is an electro-punk sub-two minute work that works an hypnotic drone and lo-fi beats around vocals which feature Crosby Lloyd (Speck).

The song, she says, is about "feeling as though you can only be your most authentic self when you are performing. It’s about struggling to feel you have much to offer ‘off’ stage. The song also plays on the similarities between performance and sex."

Catch Vera Ellen for a listening party show on October 19 at The Castle in Westwood, Los Angeles.
