Little Indie's Ones To Watch 2020 Part Three

It's that time of year once again where Little Indie has rounded up our longlist of emerging artists who we think will be worth taking a gamble on in 2020, as well as a few who 'hatched' awhile ago but are now ready - we think - to break free.

SPYRES

The four-strong Glasgow outfit Spyres burst out with this debut single, 'Otherside', and have continued to impress despite only forming at the start of the year. With influences ranging from post-punk to indie rock, they kick it with intriguing bass lines and hard-hitting guitars that lend psych-surf elements. They're playing Broadcast in Glasgow on January 17 as part of This Feeling's Big In 2020, so good time to catch them. Ali Mack

THE ROLY MO

Scotland has been pouring out talent like a hot geyser, and this Glasgow four-piece went for it big with their first single ‘Fooled By You’. Like all the Scots acts, they possess a cutting live presence with filled with a raft of infectious swagger and a dynamism of guitar-popping riffs, intricate rhythms and ear-catching vocals, and they got the look and sass to match. Sam Geary

TALK SHOW

South East London new wave punks Talk Show are pretty wild onstage with frontman Harrison Swann’s gritty spoken-word vocals together with mad infectious beats makes for one of the best gigs I've seen in ages. I think what does it for me is that they combine edgy lyrics with a danceable tune and frontman who shines on stage like a well polished Dr Marten boot. Steve Willcox

ECHO MACHINE

It was the big, bruising, belter of 'Automatic Love', released back in July, that was my first introduction to Dundee new wavers Echo Machine - and I haven't stopped singing their praises since! Their retro 80s feel is reflected in their strong synth line and dancefloor disco groove, making them hard to resist and easy to love. Linn Branson

BALUE

Probably my wildcard entry, but Eli Thomas, or ‘Balue’ as he goes by, from the US state of New Mexico, has been criminally under the radar for the last six years with his soul-soothing, lo-fi surf tunes. Three albums deep, most recently last year’s ‘Suburban Bliss’, he’s been throwing delicious pasta at the wall for years now and it’s only a matter of time before one of them sticks and everyone wants a bowl.
