Rising Wigan indie-pop four-piece Stanleys formed in 2017, releasing their debut EP, 'The Sound of the Stanleys' in the autumn of 2018, and have since supported the likes of Larkins, The Lottery Winners and others. They released their new single 'A Better Life' on January 15.
Who are you?
My name's Jake Dorsman, I play guitar. The others are Tom Concannon (vocals), Harry Ivory (bass) and Rob Hilton (drums).
Me and Rob lived around the corner from each other in Wigan and went to the same school with Harry. We later met Tom at college and formed a band.
Then we played our first ever gig in October 2017 at Kings Arms in Ashton.
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
We're influenced a lot by 60s pop and 90s Britpop, The Stone Roses, Beatles, Blur, Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Beach Boys, etc.
For our new single, the chords were written by Jake and the melody by Tom, then we went into Blueprint Studios to record - following greats like Elbow and Johnny Marr!
Tell us a little about your new single.
'A Better Life' was released last week and got to number 8 in the alternative iTunes charts and 38 in the normal iTunes charts. It's a story about an old man looking back at his life and thinking of what could have been. It’s got a bit of sentimental value.
Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?
We’re playing The Snug in Atherton, Wigan on the 31st January, followed by Staylybridge Labour Club, Manchester on the 7th February, and then The Castle Hotel in Manchester on the 28th February supporting Estevans.
How's the first year of the new decade looking, plans-wise?
We’ve got several more singles planned for the rest of the year with an EP release at the end, and then hopefully a tour.
Where can we hear more of your music?
We're on Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple Music.
What social media platforms can we find you on?
