Track Of The Day :: Deaf Surf - Strangers
Words: Ellie Ward
Produced by Boe Weaver, Brighton alt-post-punks Deaf Surf drop their retro-esque sounding 'Strangers' today via Slingshot Records.
Following their 'Sofa' debut from earlier this year, DS frontwoman Manon's vocal delivery here has a style of early 80s American surf-grunge about them, as they helm the infectious, guitar-driven song, while the lyrics have a very contemporary feel for the present social climate.
“Though I did not write the lyrics, 'Strangers' to me is a song about loneliness, isolation and not fitting in the world," explains guitarist Louis May. "It was written last year before COVID and has been a favourite live, but now seems to have taken on a greater gravitas due to everything that as happened this year. A song for anyone who feels like a stranger.”
