Track Of The Day :: SENSES are 'Drifting' on new release

Words: Linn Branson

SENSES, hot on the heels of their recent return with 'Drop Your Arms', now dive straight into the atmospheric essence of 'Drifting'.

Coming from their debut album 'Little Pictures Without Sound' (out July 16), the track is a newly recorded - with Gavin Monaghan - and refined update of the quartet's Shifty Disco debut back over a decade ago. This time round it reflects a more mature band, from Brian Callan's deeper vocal timbre, to the heavier, more assured sound that is augmented by vintage synths and staccato strings. Lyrically minimalistic, the song capitalises on the blissful harmonies of Callan and Ian Finnegan to make for a lush, shoegaze-inspired soundscape.

While 'Drifting' retains a sense of escapism, it is anchored by a new confidence and assurance that warrants its place in 2021's hit list.
