Single Review - Go Native - Atom Heart

Go Native

Atom Heart

February 3 2014 (Scruff of the Neck Records)

7/10

Words: Leanne Crowley

Manchester's Go Native release this little taster in advance of their April-dropping EP. The four-piece, who formed in early 2013, have already caused a stir on the enthusiastic Manchester scene, and 'Atom Heart' is a fine example of just why. The strong synth beats and effects influence the song throughout, with the enchanting vocals drawing the listener in. It's easy to forget there are guitars, bass and drums in this band as they start with a very minor influence on the sound of the music, but as the track progresses they become a much stronger presence. Go Native are clearly not your traditional guitar and synth band. With each sweep of the chorus, the music builds into a crescendo which ultimately winds to a close, leaving the listener wanting more. With such a strong opening song, one’s curiosity is certainly peeked to see what the EP has to offer.
