Mercury Prize 2014 Shortlist
It's that time of year again when the names get put in the frame as the shortlisted nominees for the 2014 Mercury Prize are announced.
Revealed earlier today (September 10), these are the contenders for 2014.
Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots
Bombay Bicycle Club – So Long, See You
Tomorrow
Anna Calvi – One Breath
East India Youth – Total Strife Forever
FKA twigs – LP1
GoGo Penguin – v2.0
Jungle – Jungle
Nick Mulvey – First Mind
Polar Bear – Each And Every One
Royal Blood – Royal Blood
Kate Tempest – Everybody Down
Young Fathers – Dead
Damon Albarn and Royal Blood have been named joint bookmakers' favourites to take the prize. Bookmakers William Hill, official betting partners of the prize, place Royal Blood's self-titled debut the joint 4/1 favourite with Damon Albarn's 'Everyday Robots'. Bombay Bicycle Club's 'So Long, See You Tomorrow' and Kate Tempest's 'Everybody Down' are the joint 6/1 second favourites. East India Youth is an 8/1 contender for his debut 'Total Strife Forever'.
Seven of the shortlisted albums are
debut releases, with Albarn, Anna Calvi and Polar Bear the only artists to have been nominated for the prize before.
The Mercury Prize winner will be revealed on October 29.
