Sea Of Trees

The ever-growing success story that is Spectres enthrall their fans with the release this week of the first track from their eagerly anticipated debut album, due for release in early 2015.
Bristolians Spectres have been drawing attention to themselves over the last year for their explosive live show that has earned them key slots at the larger psych-esque festivals. They have created no less an eruption of fire on record either, as anyone who has heard songs like 'Rattle The Cage' and 'Threshing Machine' can attest.
‘Sea Of Trees' is a nine-minute marathon of a track which exudes an almost krautrock, propulsive style with minimalistic elements building on each repetition - reminiscent of the style used and loved by Neu! At nearly two minutes in, the vocals of Joe Hatt come into play and the track really begins. The dual guitar riffs are brought to the forefront here and audibly dominate in a fascinating fashion as the vocals swirl around the bass and drum accompaniment in the background. After this brief harmonic interlude, all elements neatly fade into the background and some four minutes of white noise ensue before everything shifts back into focus and normal vocal and melodic service resumes in time for the track to play out. Phew.
The quartet are becoming famous for this approach to their tracks and this taster of the album to come exemplifies their style perfectly and is a tantalising glimpse of what may be in store.
