Track Of The Day :: Osca - Trumpet
Going for their Little Indie Track Of The Day hat-trick are Osca with new single 'Trumpet'. Following 'Blood' in July and 'Illume' the following month, the London four-piece now unveil the third track from their just released 'Blood' EP.
Note wanting to blow out own trumpet, we have followed Jack Kenworthy and his merry band since ... well, since they were called Kenworthy, in fact. Now they've gone all moody blowing their trumpet ... sort of. In fact, there's not a single solitary trumpet to be heard on 'Trumpet'. What there is, is plenty of layered guitars, percussion and synth sounds that take a smooth ride behind Jack's vocal, slowly graduating to a driving rhythmic pace before coming to a glitchy end.
According to JK, the track's writer, it was inspired by reading about the life of jazz trumpeter Joss Moody, a jazz trumpeter in the 50s, who was born a female but lived as a man so that he could become a musician. "The line ‘It all doesn’t matter, let the trumpet sound’ is a direct reference to the book,” he says.
Hear it live when Osca play two upcoming London dates: their first London show this Friday (November 21) at The Stillery, London, followed by November 25 at The Montague Arms
'Blood' is out now on iTunes via Duly Noted Records.
