Track Of The Day :: Keroscene - Cotton Candy
New London-based four-piece Keroscene release their debut double A-side single 'Cotton Candy'/'Storm O.K.' in January, and it looks like we'll be hearing more of them in 2015 judging by this first taster.
Drawing influences from late 80's noise rock, nu-wave and psychedelic rock, the band describe their sound as "multicoloured melancholy", and 'Cotton Candy' is not the sickly sweet confection its name may imply, instead it takes a somewhat darker, more knife-sharpened and darkly ominous line across three minutes.
Formed in early 2014 in north-west London, the band consists of Thomas Marion (bass), Jake Sorbie (vocals, drums), Francesco Bondi (guitar, sampler) and David Troster (vocals, guitar) - the latter three all previously being members of the band Binary - and they take their name from "Kerosene" and "Scene" - an idea which apparently came after Troster had a drunken argument in a bar with a journalist who claimed that there are no more scenes as they all quickly burn out. (He may well have been wise to sober up and do a Google on the name first, however, as it could cause some confusion with Kerosene, a Northern indie six-piece who are also currently active.)
Keroscene play tonight (December 12) at the Unit-4 Warehouse, London (Elkstone Road, Westbourne Park) as part of their own free entry monthly club night series. Also on the bill are The Telescopes and Brazil.
