Shropshire lass Sammi Elston has just put out her debut EP - available via iTunes from May 1 - and if you're looking for a soothing voice and tranquil guitar, this could be just the right balm for your senses.
Playing in college bands since the age of 16 (she had first taken guitar lessons while in junior school), with a move to Liverpool just over a year ago she decided to opt for a solo path. With her first single 'Don't Fall For Me' (recorded with Matt O'Grady, You Me At Six producer) earning her attention from radio, this new work is set to make further inroads.
'Welcome to Wonderland's three tracks - 'Clown Fish', 'Cry Wolf', 'Widow' - show this 26-year-old singer / songwriter is able to craft songs that simultaneously evoke feelings of starry-eyed adolescence and the hopes and fears that so many can relate to, whilst escaping the clichéd pitfalls so many cannot seem to write around.
Accompanied by Calum Muir on lead guitar/bass and James Duckworth on drums, opener 'Clown Fish' lends a bright and breezy, jazz influenced intro to the EP, while 'Cry Wolf' sails on Muir's guitar, it is 'Widow' that may arguably be the standout track for Elston's evocative vocal that weaves around intricate notes, and has the feel of a young Rickie Lee Jones. But these three songs will certainly leave you wanting to hear more.
