Keep On Track :: Pretty Vicious
Last night's (April 13) Hottest Record by Huw Stephens (sitting in for Annie Mac) on Radio 1, the debut single from Welsh rock outfit Pretty Vicious, ‘It’s Always There’.
Released on April 15 on limited 7" vinyl via Ignition Records, ‘It’s Always There’ is the follow-up to 'Cave Song' - described as a rampaging teenage anthem about growing up in the Valleys town - by the hotly tipped alternative rockers from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, who were also featured by Huw Stephens in a live session back in January. The band played the Roundhouse Rising/BBC Introducing gig in London last month and were featured as one of XFM’s Great X-Pectations.
If you need any more convincing as to why they are being so touted, with comparisons to Manic Street Preachers and Arctic Monkeys, the fact that drummer Elliot Jones is only 16 and the other three members - Brad Griffiths (vocals, guitar), Thomas McCarthy (guitar), Jarvis Morgan (bass) - are only 17, is just one reason why they so impressed Virgin EMI, to whom they signed. Not bad for a bunch of lads who only formed in March last year and didn't play their first live show until December.
After performing at Sŵn Fest last weekend, this quartet are setting the bar high. Their London Barfly show on June 12 is already sold out, with a second night now added on June 11.
