Track Of The Day :: Great Pagans - Call Of The Void

Words: Ellie Ward

Brighton's Great Pagans make great tracks too as this new single from the foursome, 'Call Of The Void', demonstrates. Out March 11 on the Anti-Ghost Moon Ray label, 'Call Of The Void' follows their 2014 digitally released 'Cupid In Error' album, and self-titled debut EP of 2012.

There is something interesting and experimental in the way the band - who take their name from Dante’s Inferno - have constructed this song, that sounds both modern, yet could also have come from a few decades ago. Across three-and-a-half minutes, synths strike against rolling drums and bass lines; while a hint of melancholy suffused with little shimmers of light in the orchestration are built around the vocals of Alex Painter. Watch out for the midpoint break.

Great Pagans play a single release show at Green
Door Store, Brighton on March 6.
