New Sounds #66 June 21 2016

SEA BED - YOUNG
Following their debut EP ‘Moving Ghosts’, the new synth-soul single, released last week, from the Brighton duo - Lizzie Massey (vocals, bass, keyboards, programming) and Jim Corbin (guitars, keyboards, programming) - prior to their BBC Introducing stage appearance at Glastonbury later this week. Star rating: 3/5

BEATY HEART - RAW GOLD

Third single after '
Flora' and 'Soft Like Clay' from the South London trio - and the Jungle co-produced lead track from their new album 'Till The Tomb', out on July 29 through Caroline International/NUA Entertainment. Trademark catchy pop hooks, and off-kilter glitchy beats and layered harmonies. Star rating: 3.5/5

LANKS - BITTER LEAF

Released this week as a free download, the Melbourne producer and multi-instrumentalist has delivered another polished track;  a beautifully layered track helmed by striking vocal in this ‘Golden Age’ follow-up - which accumulated close to a million Spotify streams. Star rating: 3/5

OPIA - SHADOW DANCES

Second single from Cole and Jacob, ex Yale University friends, who follow their debut single 'Falling', with another taste of their guitar-laced vibes, opening on a radio host sample introducing the duo “based out of New Haven, Connecticut" (although their Twitter location now finds them in Los Angeles). From there it moves into a smooth, jazz-vibe flow of piano and laid-back vocals. Star rating: 3.5/5

CLUB KURU - TONIGHT
Released last week, the new self-produced single from the five-piece fronted by the vocals of Laurie Erskine, a former bedroom producer. Flowing on a smooth, intoxicating bed of psych melded with hazy melodies, soulful vocals and some neat instrumental touches. Delightful. Star rating: 4/5
