Melbourne alt-rock indies Neighbourhood Youth air the stirring new single from their second EP, due later in the year.
Recorded at Tender Trap studios with producer Greg Rietwyk, 'Atlantic' is a big-sounding track that delivers some spine-tingling vocals from John Philip, which along with delicately strummed guitar and echoing drums gradually folds into added layers of pulsating drums and electric guitar.
Lyrically ‘Atlantic’ evolved after the band's bassist Sam Nathan watched a documentary on the raw life cycle of the Atlantic salmon, who ultimately meet their demise after laying their eggs, so that their offspring can feed off them and survive. This turned into the song we hear now, that is "ultimately about the sacrifices our loved ones make for us". An interesting concept.
