September 9 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK
DUBARRAY - PARADISE
New single out today from the Australian group fuses elements of reggae, electro, and psych with echoey vocals that all adds up to one helluva beaut track - and that's before the lush sax and twinkly piano come in to add to the Caribbean and world flavoured textures.

NAIL POLISH - HALF RIGHT
New York City duo - consisting of guitarist/vocalist Nic Brodine and bassist Jason Rivette - create an infectiously scuzzy, feedback-dripping surf/psych likeable track, which forms part of a new 7” release (w/'Timmy') via Illuminasty Records.

TEN FÉ - TURN
If you are intoxicated by the first 20 seconds you'll certainly need to hang in for the full three minutes of this new Americana slanted single,, with driving electronics and blissed-out vocal harmonies, from the London-based band. Taken from their forthcoming debut album, produced by Ewan Pearson (M83, Jagwar Ma) for release early next year. Catch live at Rough Trade East in London on October 26 as part of Rough Trade’s 40th Birthday and the Neighbourhood festival in Manchester on October 8.

YOUNG RISING SONS - UNDEFEATABLE
New slowed down grunge single - released last week - from the New Jersey quartet led by Andy Tongren's vocals over a gripping drum pattern and anthemic style chorus.

THE CONTROLLERS - YOU THINK YOU'RE INCREDIBLE
Out September 16, the debut single from the four-man punk band from Melbourne, taken from their first upcoming album, '10 Tips To Becoming Financially Unsuccessful'. "[The track] was written in about 20 minutes, but I didn’t rush it,” says guitarist/ singer Zac. “The words, melody and music just came to me so quickly. Possibly because the story behind the words really pissed me off and gave me that extra motivation."

PUMAROSA - HONEY
London five-piece's follow-up to 'Priestess' and 'Cecile', this latest - the first on new label Fiction Records - drives a psych tangent through fuzzy guitars, walls of overwhelming drums, as Isabel Munoz-Newsome’s vocals keeping it all floating effortlessly.

TOY - I'M STILL BELIEVING
New track ‘I’m Still Believing’, the latest offering from their third album 'Clear Shot', due for release on October 28 via Heavenly Recordings. Chiming guitars and their signature synth style are paired with Tom Dougall’s introspective and captivating voice.

COLLAPSING SCENERY - METAPHYSICAL COPS
Quite unlike the other nine tracks here and probably one that will not appeal to everyone, the lead single from the debut UK EP, 'God’s Least Favorite', released on Metropolitan Indian Records on September 23. Made up of NYC guitarist Don De Vore (Ink & Dagger, The Icarus Line) and LA singer Reggie Debris, they combine to produce a dark and noisy electronic sound of samplers, step sequencers, synths and drum machines, all supplemented by effects pedals for a taut post-punk, techno-inspired work. In the UK shortly to play Rough Trade East, London on September 23 and The Jazz Cafe on September 26.

VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC - KILLING ME TO LOVE YOU

Australian singer/songwriter and producer Tim Bettinson returns with another haunting soul-rich electronic composition, this time working in partnership with LA producer Al Shux (Jay Z, Lianne La Havas).

DEAP VALLY - GONNAWANNA
New rhythmic power cut from the upcoming 'Femejism' album out on September 16 from the garage rock duo - Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards - and a recent Annie Mac Hottest Record In The World. On tour in Europe now with Red Hot Chili Peppers, they play their own London headline show on September 16 at Islington Assembly Hall.
