Track Of The Day :: NVDES - 8AM
Words: Linn Branson
The best songs are the ones that hit you straight off with an almighty thump, whether it be in the head, heart or solar plexus. They can impress themselves on you for all manner of reasons, from stirring, emotive heartstring-tuggers to the all-out feelgood frenzies.
On a personal level, this blurping, bleeping, squawking kind of dance music will usually have me reaching for the 'off' switch pretty smart. But Los Angeles electronic dance music artist Josh Ocean's NVDES project had me on first listen, dragging me willingly into his full-on 2:45 minutes of exhilaration. To be honest, I can't say exactly why, only that it's so damned irresistible and with the quirky, wonky vocals overlaid, it's not just a tune get you throwing some shapes to on the dancefloor, but if you need a good track to work out to, this is it!
Taken from the upcoming EP 'The Life With Lobsters', out on November 18 via B3SCI, '8AM' combines experimental elements with noise-pop voice inlays and an infectiously riotous melding of electro-house-disco-pop-and-you name it, to create something that is off its head and really quite an exhausting listen - but one you won't be able to stop playing.
