The Canadian trio CHANCES from Montreal - Geneviève Toupin, Chloé Lacasse, Vincent Carré - only formed last year, but their first official single, 'Shine', which was released last week, is a striking debut.
Taking a mix of pop, electro, and world music, they have combined artfully with Ojibwe lyrics over an Indian Raga in the choruses, which creates something haunting and intriguing. There's a ceremonial energy to the vocals, almost prayer-like in the way they weave in and out of each other and in the harmonic intervals, which are layered over a more upbeat arrangement.
