Words: Linn Branson
Leicester duo Dark Dark Horse - Jamie Ward (producer/multi-instrumentalist) and James Stafford (vocals) - make what they describe as ‘glacier pop': a fusion of indie and glacial pop electronica. What it translates to is a sound that feels both organic and simplistic, yet stylishly layered and polished.
New single 'Frontiers' which is digitally released this Friday (March 10) via Little Fanfare, marks their first new material since debut album 'Centuries' in 2013. After an extended break, with Ward touring full-time with instrumentalists Maybeshewill, 2017 sees Dark Dark Horse back with a publishing deal (with Warner’s W Songs) and an upcoming five-track EP 'Luna II', out on April 7.
Little Indie brings you first viewing here of the lyric video to 'Frontiers'. The cinematic, split-screen style clip of wide-open spaces and Stetson wearing cowboy dudes, acts as an accompaniment to Stafford’s vocals and Ward’s luscious piano melodies, shimmering synths and dancehall tinged beats - transcribed from music Ward heard in a dream and then captured, still half asleep, onto his iPhone, which perhaps may account for its somewhat otherworldly quality.
