Track Of The Day :: Pool Art - Misery Porn

Words: Ellie Ward

Despite its title, Pool Art's 'Misery Porn' is neither unduly gloomy or NSFW.

Released on April 28, the Manchester duo offer something experimental and avant garde in nature, which, refreshingly, makes it slightly different to a good 80% of what comes through our doors.

Taking the title inspiration from the saying, 'misery loves company', the track is rooted in darkness, from the mechanical sample that opens the piece to the barely discernible vocals layered in reverb and various dissonant noises, all representative of mental turmoil.

We last heard from Scott Fair (vocals, guitar) and Lee Corfield (drums) with their self-produced, part alt-rock, part shoegaze 'Gender Balance' in December, so with this latest diversion, it shows they are definitely not afraid to explore boundaries.

Catch live supporting Allusondrugs at Gullivers, Manchester on June 16.
