The Great Escape Artist Q + A :: Cabbage

Continuing our Great Escape festival artist previews of must see acts, we next take time out with Cabbage.

Manchester's Cabbage had a fairly stonking 2016, culminating with a place on the BBC Sound Of 2017 long list. This year has seen a digitally released compilation of their three EPs - ‘Terrorist Synthesizer’, ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’, ‘Necroflat In The Palace’ - released, and support shows with Kasabian. The five-piece serve up an idiosyncratic, satirical attack in the form of discordant neo-post punk.

1. First time at TGE?

It is indeed, which it makes naturally all the more exciting. The fact Brighton is one of the best cities in our country to play makes it all the better.

2. Are you a seasoned Escaper as a punter, or a first-time newbie?

See above answer. He...he...he.

3. Will you be a Brighton day-tripper or staying for the whole event?

We're here for the two days. Every time we come, we take advantage of the beach, the Dome, and the greatest independent venue in our humble opinion, The Green Door Store. Heavy schedule means we have to dart off after Friday.

4. The highlight of your set will be...?

The end is normally the best: backstage struggling to breathe, thinking that was fucking great. We attempt to transcend and create a cataclysmic closer that brings everything home. That or the first song which is paradoxically, the same energy as the end.

5. Where will we be likely to find you after your set: at the bar, on the beach, stuffing fish n chips, or other?

Giving out 'Vote Labour' stickers that momentum gave us this week.

6. Aside from building sand(-or probably more pebble-)castles on the beach with your little bucket and spade, what else will you be up to in Brighton?

Walking the streets taking in Brighton's culture.

7. Who else playing at TGE are you hoping to see yourself, or would recommend others should put on their must see list?

I think the best bet is to attempt to create an eclectic experience. Make the most, cultures, genres, different gender set ups, artists promoting different causes. As a punter I'd go and see Dream Wife, The Sundowners, Childhood, Shame, Anteros, Superfood, Trampolene, Ten Tonnes, The Rhythm Method, The Blinders, Kano, Ray Blk, TVAM, Bang Bang Romeo and The Parrots. Tom Mouse Smith is a young chap building a cult following, we wish him all the best. And finally,  I don't know Cocaine Piss or Shit Girlfriend but the names have me sold. See! What a line up. That's 18 suggestions just from us...!

8. Please give your festival appearance/s, venues and stage times.

Thursday Horatio's 8:45pm;
Friday The Haunt 9:30pm

9. Any tips for festival goers?

Inter City ones? Liquor Flask.

10. Complete this sentence: "You must see us at The Great Escape because...

...because we might influence you to vote for a party that's in a two horse race, who has presented a manifesto that will make small changes to our lives and well being for the better. This includes Health, Education, less Military and cheaper lifestyles. Vote Labour. This is a proper chance with a 100% genuine man in charge of a party that represents the working class and youth. He even fought a civil coup off. Long live Corbyn.
