Darlington-based Lhymes have yet to release their debut single, yet to play live, yet they could well turn out to be one of this year's hottest prospects coming out of the North East.
The three - with help from Matty Jenkinson, from up and coming band Teesside band Llovers, on drums - release their debut single 'Is This Life' on September 9, and Little Indie gives you the chance in our premiere to hear it first. Though such is the interest in this fledgling outfit that the song can also be heard twice tonight (September 4) on radio: on Charlie Ashcroft's Audition show on Amazing Radio, and BBC Radio Tees Introducing.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Ty Segall, Mac DeMarco and The Growlers, 'Is This Life',
produced by Jamie Devine at Loft Music Studio in Newcastle, shows that while Lhymes may be new, these guys are far from green around the ears when it comes to their mature and honed sound. The slow tempo, part bluesy track glides along on smooth guitar riffs and measured drums, with Ben Connor's effortless vocal really taking precedence to seduce the listener.
"We wanted to turn away from the more driven and loud music and really focus on what we think works for us, a cleaner and melodic sound matched with a more harmonic vocal line," says Ben. We think they've nailed it there.
The band have already started on the next few songs that they'll be putting out, which they tell us will "pull focus on slightly different styles." Keep Lhymes on your radar.
Lhymes are: Ben Connor (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Kieran Elliot (bass), Joseph Allen (lead guitar). Also ft. Matthew Jenkinson on drums
