The debut single by Glasgow indie pop outfit The Vignettes, 'Young Bohemians' - released last Friday (August 25) - channels elements of art pop by likes of Franz Ferdinand, the rock'n'roll swagger of Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie, and the infectious tropical rhythms. Not a bad start for your official entrance
Produced by Rick Webster, it's an auspicious kick-off for the four-piece, who have been building a quiet buzz on Glasgow’s thriving music circuit for a few months, after being formed by Hamish Swanson (vocals, guitar), Innes Mackintosh (guitar, vocals), Sean Mason (bass) and Matthew Bird (drums) - in between university studies and student parties.
'Young Bohemians', says Swanson, is “about being young and alive and just being a kook and having a good time because there isn't much time anyway - so one may as well get loose and free." It's all over rather too quickly in just 145 seconds, so you may need to play a few times to get real loose!
The Vignettes support Francobollo at King Tut's, Glasgow on October 28.
