Sing & Tell :: SEAFOAM

Buckinghamshire-based indie rock trio SEAFOAM describe their sound as "stripped back, song-focussed, indie dreampop". Formed in the last half of 2017, they have just unveiled first track, 'Outside', taken from their forthcoming debut EP.

Who are you?

I'm Ciaran Forth and I play drums in the band. We've also got Jim Terrill on vocals and guitar, as well as TJ on bass (stands for Tom Jones but that's just confusing..).

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today?

We're a fresh band called SEAFOAM. We've been working on this band for around six months now and are finally ready to share it with the world! We've been writing and recording a whole bunch of songs and crafting our sound over at Runway Studios in Westcott. The studio is located on a disused rocket site and there's a whole bunch of spooky stuff, like untouched journals from the 70s! Very cool.

We were brought together through a mutual friend and it clicked straight away. Since then we've playing a couple gigs under random names just to gauge the response. Our previous experience in other bands has led us to taking a laid back approach to SEAFOAM, considering a light-heartedness which hopefully comes across in the tunes.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

The sound delivers a stripped back, song-focussed, indie dreampop tone which takes influence from bands like Whitney, Real Estate, Beach Fossils, and The War On Drugs to name (but) a few. We've all got the same taste and love a collaborative Spotify playlist!

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

We've been recording with our good friend and brilliant engineer Matt Ward, who's responsible for the production. He really helped us bring out the best in the tracks whilst keeping it true to the live sound.

We've been writing musically as a band. It's been mad because every time we get together songs just appear. Jim will go away and figure out some vocals then the following week their normally finished. We're excited to start playing live because we've found that really gives birth to the tracks.

Tell us a little about your new single.

‘Outside’ is taken from our upcoming self-titled EP - we'll be releasing that in early April whilst booking a bunch of shows across the country. We plan to record a follow up in the early summer.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We're playing The Horn in St Albans on the 25th of April.

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?

At this stage were just looking to get as many shows in the calendar as possible. We've spoke about getting down to Brighton and establishing ourselves on the scene there, but it's still early days. We're also looking into a DIY tour at some point this summer.

Where can we hear more of your music?

Soundcloud has the mini EP, but if anyone cares they can just message us and we can share a whole bunch more.

What social media platforms can we find you on?
