Watch :: My Bloody Valentine live in Birmingham and London

Words: Izzy Butler

My Bloody Valentine made it a double whammy of noise this weekend, Kevin Shields band back to the stage for the first time in five years on Friday night (June 22) at Birmingham’s O2 Institute, and then last night at The Cure's Robert Smith curated Meltdown festival at London's Royal Festival Hall.

With sound issues hampering proceedings in Birmingham, and a false start on 'Nothing Much To Lose', they covered material from three studio albums ('Isn’t Anything', 'Loveless', 'm b v').

Birmingham setlist:

I Only Said
When You Sleep
New You
You Never Should
Honey Power
Cigarette in Your Bed
Only Tomorrow
Only Shallow
What You Want
Nothing Much To Lose
Who Sees You
To Here Knows When
Slow
Soon
Wonder 2
Feed Me With Your Kiss
You Made Me Realise

While the Birmingham crowd lost out on new songs which may well form part of their forthcoming two EPs, the Meltdown crowd were lucky enough to be treated to at least one, untitled, fresh number. Included was also a rare live performance of 'What You Want' from their 'Loveless' EP. Earplugs were obligatory!
